Replacing your home’s circuit breaker can be a smart investment in protecting your home, all while avoiding any damage to your fixtures and appliances. Also, by making this investment you can feel confident that your family is safe.

After all, the circuit breaker is an important line of defense when it comes to home safety; however, they are often overlooked as being a solution for real problems. After all, these are typically placed in a part of the home that isn’t accessed very often, and the old saying rings true – out of sight, out of mind.

However, if you ignore the warning signs there’s a problem, you could experience some of the following issues.

Flickering Lights

It’s pretty annoying to be eating dinner and notice that the lights keep dimming and then getting brighter again. While this is distracting, it could also be the sign of a more serious problem with your circuit breaker.

Poor Performance of Your Other Appliances

Have you noticed your stove is no longer baking evenly? Or, is it unable to reach the needed temperature? Does your dryer shut off in the middle of its cycle?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may think the issue lies with the appliances. However, a better first step is to replace the breaker, as that is likely the culprit to blame for all these inconsistencies.

Damage to the Appliances and Lights

If a circuit breaker is unable to control the currents of electricity properly, then it could result in bulbs that are burning out on a regular basis, or a microwave that’s unable to function properly. Overheating may occur and result in lasting damage to your computer boards and coils.

The Possibility of Water, Fire, and Smoke Damage

If there is too much power being drawn through a power cord, then an electrical fire may occur. You home could then suffer severe damage due to fire, water, or smoke. There’s no reason to ignore this problem – especially when the cost for doing so is so very high.

Reduced Property Value

When a fire occurs, regardless of how small it may be, the integrity and the value of your property is going to be diminished – often significantly. If you don’t upgrade the panel, then the possibility of a fire and a reduced property value is a real concern.

If you have decided that it is time to invest in a new circuit breaker, it’s important to understand – this is not a DIY job. The fact is, your home’s electrical system is extremely complex. As such, serious issues can occur if you don’t know what you are doing. Instead of taking this risk, a better option is to enlist the services of the professionals. They can ensure that everything is done properly and that your home is safe from any type of electrical problems, now and in the future when they may occur.
